Loading... Please wait...When buying your hedge there maybe a requirement to protect them against damage from vermin. The most common vermin to damage young hedging plants are Rabbits.
Rabbit guards or spirals are cheap and easy to apply to your hedging plants. Primarily they are used on bareroot plants in more 'rural' locations, such as farms or country estates. However, vermin can be a problem in more urban areas, especially if there are adjacent fields to your property.
By applying Rabbit guards you will prevent damage that could kill the plant. We have indicated on certain products where we think vermin protection maybe required, you can add these to your order in the shopping cart area.
Below are some images that show the Rabbit guards and also show how to apply them. If you need further information or if you are not sure if they are required then please feel free to contact us
Rabbit guard and supporting cane
Insert bamboo cane close to the base of the plant and push in the ground at least 10cm
Open out the spiral guard as above
Place the open end of the Rabbit guard over the stem and the bamboo cane (make sure the guard covers both the plant stem and the bamboo cane)
Allow the guard to 'spiral' up the plant and cane
The end result should look something like this, with the plant stem and bamboo cane safely wrapped up within the guard. It's one of those jobs that looks easier on paper than it does in practice, but be patient it will become easier the more you do it
